Did you know that rats use their whiskers for balance, navigation and to orient themselves? They use their whiskers to explore their environment, to judge where they are going and to figure out if they can fit through holes.Rats are able to investigate their surroundings by moving their whiskers back and forwards over the ground and over any obstacles, this technique is called “whisking” and provides rats with something similar to our sense of touch. This would explain why rats move around so easily in the dark.
